Dr. Achilles Adamantiades is an independent Consultant of Energy and the Environment. Before his retirement form the World Bank Group in May 1996, he was an energy engineer with director's responsibilities in the Industry and Energy Dept., for international energy issues (with emphasis on the developing countries). During his career he covered extensively and in depth issues related to energy policy, regional development, energy production, nuclear energy safety, planning - preparation - appraisal and supervision of projects. Prior to his employment by the World Bank Group he worked for ten years at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the main organization in the U.S.A. for research and development in the use of electric energy. He also has experience in the operation of thermoelectric plants. He has co-authored three significant books, more than fifty technical articles, numerous reports for the World Bank Group, and invited presentations at international conferences and scientific meetings.
Dr. Adamantiades has great academic experience as Professor and researcher. He has taught at the Iowa State University, University of Patras, Stanford University (California), and George Washington University (Washington, DC). He has given many lectures in the U.S.A. and in Europe and is a member of the Committee of Performance of Thermal Generating Plant of the World Energy Council (WEC).
